Starrene Rhett - Hampton University Short Course 2002
Starrene Cherée Rhett was born and raised in East Harlem,New York City. She attended elementary school at P.S. 30 where her entire first grade class received a full college scholarship as a result of a partnership between Merrill Lynch and the National Urban League.
The program is called Scholarship Builder,in which 10 inner city first grade classes,who were prospective graduates for the year 2000,from 10 major cities in the United States,received this opportunity.
Upon graduation from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts,where she studied voice,she appeared on the CBS Early Show,and in the Daily News,and USA Today,where she discussed the program and its benefits. She also gave a speech in the summer of 2000 at the National Urban League Youth Conference as a delegate for the Scholarship Builder program.
She is now a rising junior at Hampton University,majoring in Mass Media Arts with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism. At school,Starrene works with the campus radio station,WHOV FM,as an on air DJ,and is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
Starrene’s work experience includes the Onyx Media Group,and the Media Relations Department at Merrill Lynch in New York City,where she attended company press release conferences,interviews,and helped put together and distribute the company newspaper,The Global Daily News.
Her interests include,arts and entertainment,politics,fitness,fashion,and technology.
