Taadhameka Kennedy - Hampton University Short Course 2003
When I tell people I want to go into journalism they always ask me why. My favorite journalism professor told me “Journalism is the search for truth.” Reasons don’t get any better than that.
As a student at Hampton University I have developed a taste for the journalism craft. I admire its ideals and crave its fast pace. The immediacy and demand for ingenuity and skill are all the things I could ask for in a future career. The diversity of voices helps open up the eyes of the world and being a part of that is all I could ever want.
I graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School after spending two of my four years as a Media major. The journalism, photography and video classes I took only solidified my desire to have my hand in the media.
As a professional I hope to never be able to be pigeonholed as a ‘good feature writer’ or a ‘good news writer’. The only description I hope that people will have for me is simply “great”. I hope to one day be proficient in photography, print writing, broadcast media, and any other media endeavors that help me help people.
This internship will provide me with the real world experience I need to realize my goal as a future reporter and someone who is coming to change the world. ‘The walk of a thousand miles begins with the first step’ and I have just taken mine.
