Iraq war could cost more than $1 trillion over next decade

WASHINGTON - The war on terrorism and operations in Iraq and Afghanistan could cost the U.S. more than $1 trillion in the next 10 years, according to an estimate from the Congressional Budget Office.

That's assuming a troop level of 75,000 by 2013, said Robert Sunshine of the CBO at a Tuesday hearing of the House Budget Committee.

With 30,000 troops deployed, the wars would cost more than $500 billion, Sunshine said.
