Survey calls American high schools drug-infested, says drug use is rising

WASHINGTON - A study released Thursday says 61 percent of U.S. high schools are "drug-infested," as students report seeing drug activity among their peers on school grounds.

The survey, by Columbia University's National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, said 80 percent of high schoolers and 44 percent of middle schoolers have seen their peers use, buy or have drugs on campus or come to school high or drunk. That represents about 16 million teens, the survey said.
