U.S. bridges still in disrepair a year after the Minnesota collapse

WASHINGTON - The bridge slipped from the grip of the Mississippi's banks like a plate from a clumsy child's hand and shattered in the murky water below.

Instead of a parent's scold, Minnesota's tragedy drew national attention to its bridges. Thirteen people died while simply rolling with rush-hour traffic across the Interstate 35W bridge in Minneapolis.
