Angel BoothI am the youngest child and the only daughter in my family, presumably a daddy's girl. I grew up in Richmond, Va., and I traveled about 1 ½ hours down I-64 to Hampton University in Hampton, Va., for a college experience close to home. There, I learned about journalism, politics, the world and the importance of First Amendment rights.
After graduating on May 11, 2008, with a Bachelor of Arts in print journalism, I was excited about my newfound independence. However, I found leaving my "Home by the Sea," Hampton University, to be more of a humbling experience. After having internships at ESSENCE magazine and The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, Tenn., I didn't have a job, and student loan bills were six months away. However, I am a woman of faith. I am in Washington. I am at the Scripps Howard Foundation Wire, and I am ready to work. I don't have time to worry, I'm only 21.
