From the time Colleen Schmidt was a child, she’s always loved a good story. Her imagination took her to faraway places and enchanted castles, and her notebook allowed her to keep track of it all.
Now Colleen is a junior news-editing major at Ohio University, with hopes of continuing to use her imagination in the journalism field after graduation.
Colleen has been a reporter at The Post, a daily, student-run newspaper in Athens, Ohio for two years. During her time at the paper, Colleen has covered stories about tuition, construction and the budget. But she’s also written stories about student life, and about events on Ohio University’s campus.
This past summer, Colleen interned at Fox19 News, a TV station in Cincinnati, Ohio. At Fox, Colleen helped produce for several of the evening news segments, shadowed reporters, and also was a field producer for an education special.
As a Scripps Howard Foundation student, Colleen hopes to further develop and sharpen her writing skills, and also to enjoy living in Washington D.C. Her dream for the future is to work for The New York Times, CNN, or another large newspaper.
In the field of journalism, Colleen hopes to bring strong, unbiased stories to the public, while adding some color and life when she’s able.
