Michael Famiglietti - Spring 2007

For the first story I wrote for my college paper, The State Press, I interviewed a former state representative and thought I had made it. Now as I begin working in Washington, I see how much I still want to do.

I've loved writing since grammar school, scribbling down thoughts about family and friends in black composition notebooks.

I have a touch of bibliomania, piling up pristine hardbacks, yellowed paperbacks and dust-loving first editions on every surface in my house in Scottsdale.

In Arizona, I've had two internships with The Arizona Republic covering local politics, community events and city expansions. I also wrote an art crime column for Art-Talk, an art collector's magazine, and interned with Arizona Highways, the state's biggest travel magazine.

But politics means the most to me. Frankly, I'm obsessed. It dominates my choices in everything, including books, newspapers, radio and TV. Now that I'm walking the streets of D.C., about to write on the issues that mean the most to me, I hope each story will feel like that first one.
