Michaela Jackson - Spring 2007

Michaela JacksonClick on photo to enlarge or download: Michaela JacksonYou wouldn't know it by my accent, but I come to the big city via Nashville. I am finishing degrees in journalism and English at Middle Tennessee State University, and I am a storyteller through and through.

I served last semester as the editor of my campus newspaper, a publication I am proud to call my launch pad. Throughout 2006, I worked as a freelance reporter, and then a full-time intern at my hometown paper, The Tennessean, the one-time home of such journalism greats as John Seigenthaler and David Halberstam.

Washington is a big adjustment for me, but I'm no stranger to the city. The summer of 2005 found me living alone in Manhattan for an internship at MSNBC. I lived in seven apartments in 10 weeks to avoid paying the criminal rent. How's that for beating the system?

So here I am, back at square one again. I have a new city, a new job and I expect great things out of the next three months. Just don't mind if I drop an occasional "fixin" into casual conversation. Old habits die hard.
