Lisa J. Chapman - Spring 2000
The ability to write is a privilege itself. For the past few years, I have been exposed to the more political side of writing. I worked with a lawyer who fights for the rights of children with special needs within the school system. In that work, I learned the importance of each word in a document. This opportunity demonstrated how my words were able to help direct a child's future. I am now a junior at Indiana University. I started as a business major, but I soon figured out that my heart and soul was in journalism. I write and edit for my school paper, The Indiana Daily Student. I also help plan charity events, attend weekly meetings and recruit new members for my sorority, Alpha Delta Pi. Writing lights a flame within me. There is no better feeling than the thrill of going out and capturing a story. My goal is to never stop writing. I also want more experience in politics, government, and public policy. I plan to go to law school and specialize in the rights of exceptional children.
