Jordain Carney

I am senior at the University of Arkansas, expecting to graduate in May with a degree in journalism, political science and English. With the exception of vacations or summer internships, I have spent my life in Arkansas, first in the small town of Greenwood and then Fayetteville for college.

At the U of A, journalism seemed like a natural fit. I have always had an unabating love for reading and writing, a habit of correcting friends’ grammar (and my own) and an obsession with current events. During my time at the U of A, I spent two years as a reporter for The Arkansas Traveler, before becoming an editor, first for the news section and then opinion section. As a freshman, what I imagined would be a part-time job writing a story or two a week turned into a passion in which I spent my time in the newsroom before, in between and after class.

In September, I was a reporting intern for the Society of Professional Journalists’ Working Press in New Orleans.

Reporting in Washington has been a goal since I became interested in journalism, and I look forward to exploring and taking advantage of my time in the nation’s capital.
